The Lincoln Tunnel spans 1.5 miles under the Hudson River, and is a key subterranean transportation route connecting New Jersey and New York. Kleinberg Electric was the electrical contractor responsible for renovating two of the tunnel’s three tubes. The scope of work included the removal and replacement of high-voltage feeders, as well as communication and lighting upgrades throughout the tunnel. The general contractor was Schiavone Construction Co.
The Macomb’s Dam Bridge is a swing span, movable bridge that crosses the Harlem River in New York City and connects West 155th Street in Manhattan with East 161st Street and Jerome Avenue in the Bronx. It is a major route way from Manhattan to Yankee Stadium. Kleinberg Electric completed all electrical services to fully renovate the bridge, including a new control house, PLC Control System bridge barrier and warning gates, as well as street and traffic lighting on the new-approach roads and ramps. Schiavone Construction/American Bridge, JV, was the general contractor.
The replacement of the Willis Avenue Bridge represents one of Kleinberg Electric’s most challenging recent projects. Collaborating with Kiewit Constructors/Weeks Marine Inc., JV, as the project’s general contractor, Kleinberg Electric completed all electrical work for the entirely new bridge, measuring 350 ft. in length and weighing 2,400 tons. For the $612 million project, Kleinberg Electric completed all electrical services to fully renovate the bridge, including a new control house, PLC Control System bridge barrier and warning gates, as well as street and traffic lighting on the new-approach roads and ramps.
When the New York City Department of Transportation determined this 68-year-old bridge was not wide enough to meet modern standards, they ordered the replacement of the entire structure, which carries 55,000 vehicles daily via two spans of four-lane traffic in each direction over the Gowanus Canal between Brooklyn and Manhattan. The $55 million project carried with it strict mandates, and a major scheduling challenge: Neither span could be closed for longer than 64 days. Kleinberg Electric completed all electrical service to fully renovate the bridge, including a new control house, PLC Control System bridge barrier and warning gates, as well as street and traffic lighting on the new-approach roads and ramps. The general contractor was Kiewit Constructors.
Henry Hudson Parkway Bridge connects northern Manhattan to the Bronx. Originally built as part of the Henry Hudson Parkway by the Henry Hudson Parkway Authority, this bridge is currently managed by the Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority. Kleinberg Electric completed the comprehensive electrical rehabilitation of the bridge, including lighting and power on the bridge itself. The general contractor was Judlau Construction.
The Outerbridge Crossing is one of three Staten Island Bridges joining New York and New Jersey. Kleinberg Electric has completed many projects on the Bridge. The scope of work included installation of power and communication controls.
When it opened in 1964, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge represented the world’s longest suspension span. Kleinberg Electric completed the installation of temporary communication and power capacities during the relocation of the bridge’s sidewalk. The general contractor was El Sol Construction.
The Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge was opened by the Marine Parkway Authority in 1937 to provide access to the Rockaway Peninsula. Kleinberg Electric has performed various electrical installations for the bridge, including replacement of fiber-optic drop cables.
One of the oldest suspension bridges in the world, the Brooklyn Bridge was erected in 1883 and has remained an iconic part of the New York City skyline. Kleinberg Electric completed a rehabilitation of the Brooklyn Bridge’s traveler system through the installation of approximately 10,000 linear feet of conductor rail under the structure, to power its maintenance travelers. The project also included installation of power centers beneath the bridge in an effort to provide power to the conductor rail, increasing the voltage to 480 volts. El Sol/GCCOM, JV was the general contractor.
Kleinberg Electric has completed a bevy of renovations on the George Washington Bridge. The suspension structure is the world’s busiest motor vehicle bridge, carrying over 100 million vehicles annually. The project has included the installation of power and communication conduits.
