Hamilton Avenue Bridge

When the New York City Department of Transportation determined this 68-year-old bridge was not wide enough to meet modern standards, they ordered the replacement of the entire structure, which carries 55,000 vehicles daily via two spans of four-lane traffic in each direction over the Gowanus Canal between Brooklyn and Manhattan. The $55 million project carried with it strict mandates, and a major scheduling challenge: Neither span could be closed for longer than 64 days. Kleinberg Electric completed all electrical service to fully renovate the bridge, including a new control house, PLC Control System bridge barrier and warning gates, as well as street and traffic lighting on the new-approach roads and ramps. The general contractor was Kiewit Constructors.
